    On November 5th, Consul General Richard Riley dropped the puck to start the Team USA vs. Canada East hockey game as part of the World Junior A Hockey Challenge in Yarmouth Nova Scotia.

    On October 19th, Consul Scott Whitmore, spoke to international students at Dalhousie University about the process of applying for a visa to travel and/or study in the United States.  

  • EducationUSA in Halifax

    On Sunday, September 30th the Halifax Consulate represented EducationUSA at the first Recruit in Canada Fair in Halifax. Staff provided information to guidance counselors, local students, and parents on post-secondary education opportunities in the United States.  

  • Support of local Rotary/Rotaract Club

    On September 21, Acting Principal Officer, Scott Whitmore, welcomed Valerie White, President of the Halifax Rotary Club, and Rotaract members Sheena Parris and Serina Holtz to the office to sign a grant that will help establish a Rotaract-based youth council.

    The Consulate hosted Pulitzer-prize winning author Dr. Alan Taylor who wrapped up a week-long tour of Canada discussing the War of 1812 with events in Halifax.  

  • Statement by Ambassador David Jacobson On the Death of Embassy Personnel in Benghazi, Libya

    Each of us in the U.S. Mission in Canada was shocked and saddened to learn of the deaths of our colleagues in Libya following the outrageous attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their friends and families.

    Republican Steven Grand and Democrat Linda Moore Forbes kicked off a cross-Canada tour in Halifax on August 13th.  

  • Tall Ships 2012

    The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle, the USS DeWert and the USS Hurricane joined several tall ships and navy ships in Halifax this past weekend to take part in events to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.

    Acting Principal Officer William Syll was happy to host students and faculty from Savannah State University in Georgia for a visit to the Consulate during their time in Halifax.

    On July 4, acting Principal Officer, William Syll, his wife, and the staff of the U.S. Consulate General in Halifax hosted 200 guests for a reception to celebrate the 236th Anniversary of U.S. Independence 

  • Speaker on U.S. Elections visits Halifax

    On June18 and 19, the Consulate hosted Dr. Hans Noel of Georgetown University for a series of events to discuss the role of political movements such as the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street in upcoming U.S. Election 

  • War of 1812 Exhibit at the Canadian Army Museum at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site

    On June 8, Acting Principal Officer, William Syll co-hosted the opening of the War of 1812 Exhibit at the Canadian Army Museum at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site. 

  • Consulate Commemorates U.S. Memorial Day and the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812

    On May 28, the Consulate and the U.S. Navy exchange officers in Halifax held a Memorial Day service on Deadman’s Island. Nearly 200 American Prisoners of War (POWs) from the War of 1812 are buried on Deadman’s Island.  

  • 28th Annual California Wine Fair

    For the twenty-eighth consecutive year, the U.S. Consulate General proudly sponsored the annual California Wine Fair on May 10th in Halifax 

  • U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Juniper Visits Halifax

    The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Juniper stopped in Halifax on April 17 after completing a ceremonial trip to the site where the Titanic sank one hundred years earlier.  

  • Halifax Remembers RMS Titanic

    On April 15 Acting Principal Officer Koski and Commander Lisa Mack of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Ice Patrol attended a Memorial Service to mark the 100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster. 

  • Halifax Housing Help

    On April 13, the Consulate General donated surplus computer equipment and office furniture to the non-profit organization Halifax Housing Help. Acting Principal Officer Dan Koski and his staff took some time out of their workday to deliver the items to the organization’s central office in downtown Halifax.  

  • Atlantic Canadian Alumni Gather in Halifax

    On March 29 Atlantic Canadian alumni of U.S. Department of State exchange programs gathered in Halifax for a half-day workshop. During the workshop, alumni took part in a panel discussion on Beyond the Border with panelists alumnus Andrew LeFrank, Director General of the Atlantic Region, Canada Border Services Agency and Steven Pike, Spokesman for the U.S. Embassy. 

  • Outreach at Mount St. Vincent University

    On March 20th Temporary Acting Principal Officer, Eric Parker addressed students in Dr. Reginald Stuart’s Canada-U.S. relations course at Mount Saint Vincent University.  

  • Volunteering for a Good Cause

    On March 8th, Acting Principal Officer Dan Koski and staff from the Consulate volunteered their time at the Parker Street Food Bank in Halifax. 

  • Tragedy and Heroism Remembered In Newfoundland

    At a ceremony in St. Lawrence, Newfoundland, yesterday, the community gathered to remember the survivors and the victims of a 1942 maritime disaster. 

  • U.S. Visa Information Session

    Acting Principal Officer Dan Koski met with around 80 international students from Dalhousie University on February 10 to share information about the process of getting a U.S. visa.  

  • Consulate General Hosts Open House

    The U.S. Consulate General staff hosted an “Open Doors” event on February 8th to give guests an opportunity to learn more about the Consulate’s operations.
